After a three day trek we are finally at the beach!!! In the past few days we have hiked 35 kilometers, hiked four mountains, and passed through about a dozen native villages. With us was a handful of Americans, two Germans, a Swiss, a French, a Dutch, and a Canadian. After the fisrt day of hiking I felt like I was going to die, coming right from the states and then hiking to 3000m was not too easy on the lungs … anyhow I survived!! We arrived to a village in the mountains where we stayed in an abandoned dormitory. We cooked ourselves dinner in the middle of the street with curious guatemalan children surrounding us. It was amazing to see the way the people live with no running water or technology of any sort. Here we were ¨treking¨through the mountains when in fact the natives hike this path regularly transporting food, wood, and even children on their backs. Americans complain about not getting a close enough parking spot imagine having to climb up and down a 3000m mountain for a living!
Anyhow, moving on … the second day was probably the hardest we the path was a lot steaper and we went a complete 15km in one day. Plus my breakfast didn´t sit too well with me and ended up coming up, not pleasent … aren´t you glad I told you!!! When we finally arrived to our destination we were well taken care of. We stayed at the house of a man named Don Pablo, who seemed to be very well of compared to most others. He put us up in a large room, made us an amazing dinner, and even had a mixed CD titled ¨rock englais¨playing for us. After dinner we went to sleep right away because we had to get up at 4am to start our next day. We hiked to a peak and watched the sun rise over the lake of San Pedro made mosh (oatmeal) and then made our way down to the lake. After three days without bathing or even changing clothes we were all VERY excited to see water!!! As a victory meal we all ate at a nice restaurant and are now waiting for a bus to our hostel where we will stay the night. We are going to celebrate New Years Eve here in San Pedro, should be a good time. It is a very touristy area so there is a lot going on. We have already recieved many flyers for a Buddha night in town … but we are still trying to make up our mind 🙂

I could go on for hours, but then I would not have any stories to tell when I get home. Happy New Year, party safely tonight!!!
