I didn’t get a chance to write from Germany but the little time we had in Berlin was great!!! We went to the Wall Museum which was very interesting and made me wish I had listened better in in AP Government. Either way the exhibit had actual pieces of the wall which once divided Eastern and Western Germany. Divided from their family and friends people took extreme measures to get to the other side. Their were pictures of tunnels that were built, women that curled their bodies into suitcases, and even a human catapult. It is amazing to think that differing ideologies caused this physical barrier to form. In a sense it reminds me when I was little and my mom would put a tissue box between Angie and I so we would stop fighting. Seems silly but I guess it works on all levels!? We also saw a few beautiful plazas, the arch where the wall was once located, and the Holocaust memorial.
I am now in Budapest, Hungary. Due to the fact that many of the buildings here survived WWII, they are some of the oldest in Europe and are absolutely amazing. Our hostel is an old building downtown with vaulted ceilings, a full kitchen, and a small living room. I can’t even imagine what an apartment like that would cost in the states!!!! Today we toured Buda and tomorrow we are going to Pest. In Buda we saw a beautiful castle – it took us about 700 flights of stairs to get there but it was worth it. Also on the way up we paid approximately $1 to use the bathroom – but apparently toilet paper was extra because there was none in the stalls. Thankfully I had tissues in my purse, too bad for Stacey though 🙂
Tomorrow we will have the whole day to explore which will be nice!!! After that we are headed to Vienna on a train. Hope all is well I will be in touch soon 🙂
