Vienna

We are now in the Czech Republic, Prague is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. We got here mid afternoon ate dinner and then roamed around for a bit. The city is so well preserved and just astonishing. I can not really put it into words, but I will try to get pictures up ASAP.

Vienna was a great time. The older buildings are stained black from the industrial revolution, creating a bit of a eerie look. St. Stephans cathedral had an extremely gothical look to it and has been under constuction since the 1100s. Despite the historic landmarks much of Vienna is very modernized. It is almost sad because the architecture is amazing but then you see advertisments and neon signs plastered all over them. It made me a bit ashamed of being a marketing major – BUT then again I would find a much more creative way to create buzz rather than ruining the historical feel!!! The musical history in Vienna is everywhere. Mozart began playing there when he was only six years old. We tried to get ticket to the ballet but it was a bit out of our price range.

I visited the modern art museum there, while Stacey napped in the park. The exhibit was nothing like American Modern art. There was a lot more gore and haste expressed in the pieces, which was a bit disturbing, but the intensity of the expression used was breath taking. I actually argued with another traveler about the modern art later that evening. He believed that the hasteful emotions should be channeled into something to transcend beyond those feelings. I on the other hand argued that the beauty lied in the ability to express something that society doesnt normally accept. No one really won, but it is always fun being challenged.

We ventured off to the Bermuda Triangle that night – which is a series of bars in the center of Vienna. We had met a group of Americans and Canadians in our hostel so we all went out together. We figured out quickly why it was called the Bermuda Triangle because when we got back to our hostel around 4am we had no idea what time it was.

I will tell you all about Prague once I have experienced it a bit more, but as of now I am nothing but impressed. Hope all is well!!!
