Coloring Easter eggs has long been a family tradition of ours. Well, now that Angie and I are in our thirties I think it’s safe to say that we’ve tried every dying method available via Target, Family Fun, and the Worldwide Web. We’ve run out of ways to mix it up. So, this year we got creative and gave our eggs a platform. Introducing Lobby For Your Egg. A new Easter tradition …

Mom {Sue} kicked things off and took a stand for peace and love. Because, as she put it, “who doesn’t want peace and love?” While we were all in agreement there, she didn’t walk away with any awards today. The panel just felt there was a lot to be done before we start chasing such lofty, and somewhat subjective topics.

Dan was up next, and boy did his inner-sleazy-salesman shine! By breaking Easter up into two words, “Eas” and “Ter”, he argued we could focus on what it truly represents. Love and the beauty of mankind. The royalty of life on earth, as he put it. Similar to used car ads, his audience saw right through it. Sorry babe.

Doug, the newest face at the table, gave an impressive speech rooted in nature, but then rigged the polls by voting for himself. Again, and again, and again. Once the votes had been retabulated he still managed to walk away with the award for Top Designer. And, we let him have it. Since he is new and all.

Angie, confused the crowd a little bit. Here she is a hippie child with a dog named Pippi, yet she showed up with an egg wrapped in plastic?! She focused on the “cool factor” yet as a group we all felt that she was capable of much, much more. The plastic didn’t win her any points. Quite literally.

Dad {Joe} designed an egg that was intended to unify and empower chickens across the world. His pitch landed him the Best Presenter award and provided clarity on what truly did come first … the egg. He’ll continue to advocate for the rights of all chickens – no matter their size or color.

I decided to leave the more pressing global issues to the others. Rather my platform was more personal in nature. Through a moving speech I proved to my mother that those years of confirmation classes are not lost and I do have deep remorse for that party I threw when I was 21. The one where the brownies got caked into the carpeting.

Congratulations to Dad and Doug for winning this year’s Lobby For Your Egg. And, happy Easter from our family to yours.
