The Mouth Of The Two Hearted, And Beyond

Capitalizing on Memorial Day this past weekend we packed up our pups, the tent, and one faulty air mattress and headed to the mouth of the Two Hearted. If you haven’t been, put it on your summer list. Beautiful, remote, and serene. A perfect combo.

After traveling along dusty roads with two sandy pups we welcomed the bite of Lake Superior. It was my first dip unaccompanied by a sauna and it certainly took my breath away.

As the sun set we gathered rocks and proceeded to see who could find the most creative way to throw them in the lake. Once that got old we found a stump sticking out of the beach and naturally starting practicing handstands and other impressive human tricks.

On Sunday morning we headed to Tahquamenon Falls to play tourist. The dogs were a little over stimulated by the massive amounts of people but we enjoyed the views, the sunshine, and a stop at the brewery which is conveniently located inside the park.

Next stop Whitefish Point, where I hadn’t been since I was a child. Fog hovered over Lake Superior making this pit stop a little chilly and also quite eerie. Much of the beach was blocked off for nesting Piping Plover.

After stopping in Paradise for some surprisingly delicious grub at The Inn we headed back to the woods. En route signs pointed towards a Light House and we followed. All the way to Crisp Point.

The journey didn’t end there, but the photos did. On Monday we took the long way back through Grand Marais and Munising. Dan attempted a few geocaches as we drove through Pictured Rocks, and I opted for sun-kissed naps in the trucks. Successful weekend all around!
