Hey, I made it.
I have been in the city since 7:00AM this morning after only three hours of sleep (yeah, the British television sucked me in) so I am really tired, BUT I’ve done so much.
Although I only had one full day in the city I feel like I have accomplished a weeks worth of site seeing. I started out on the tube this morning and arrived in the city safely without even getting on the wrong train 🙂 A walk through Hyde Park took me to Buckingham Palace. I roamed around and
managed to find the House of Parliament (Big Ben), the London Eye, and the City Hall where there was a Dali exhibit. I then walked 15 miles down the Thames riverside (okay maybe it was three miles) to the Tate Museum, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, and the London Bridge. There were a few other buildings here and there – but these are the ones I can remember right now.
There was NO WAY I was going to be in London without a trip to Abbey Road so I got back on the tube and made my way to one of the most legendary locations in rock history. There really isn’t much to see on Abbey Road but it was fun to see the site of the Beatles recording studio and where they made their famous crossing. It was actually kind of funny because when I got down there, there was a group of people dressed in really funky monster-like clothing, crowded by press and “fans”. I asked some guy who they were – he didn’t remember their name but I guess they just won some music in contest in London. He said they were “absolutely brilliant”. Anywho, this group, dressed in 7 inch high clogs (no joke) and Halloween-like clothing crossed Abbey Road just like the Beatles had. The British press was eating it up. It was a site to see.
I am now near Baker Rd. where I just visited a
Sherlock Holmes museum and Beatles art exhibit. I will probably hit up a few more places (maybe the portrait museum?) before I head back to my bed (which is calling my name at this very moment). All in all London is great. Hopefully I can make it back here in the future to fully indulge in what I am surrounded by. The city is so clean and well preserved!! Not going to lie it makes New York look like a piece of trash. The architecture is absolutely AMAZING – I now remember where my dreams of becoming an architect came from in high school. The people here are really friendly and seem more than happy to point me in the right direction or explain British mysteries to me. I feel like the London environment is very easy to adjust to – plus there is no language barrier which is “brilliant”.
I have an early flight to Amsterdam tomorrow – hoping to hit up the Heineken Exhibit, Anne Frank Museum, and the Van Gogh Museum there. Speak to you from Germany …
